Mr. Qu Bochuan, a famous scholar and educator,
was the principal founder of
Dalian University
of Technology. He successively
held the posts
of the academic dean of Yan’an Institute of Natural Science, the director
of the experimental institute
of the Shanxi-Chaha’er-Hebei Military Area, and the president
of Dalian University of Technology.
He took
up the post of honorary president
of Dalian
University of technology in
1981 and obtained
the Award for the Highlighted
Seniors from
the State Educational Commission
the same
year. Later he was elected
the committee
member of the Sixth Chinese
People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Gu Jianfen, born in Dalian, started her career
by working for the Dalian Song

Troupe. She became a famous
composer because

She wrote music

Is the Spring",
"Young Friends Come Together",
and "Singing and Smiling".

songs, with beautiful melody
and lively rhythm,

Fang Hua is a famous Dalian-born actor. What
made him first well-known was
his successful
performance in several modern
dramas after
the "August 15th Recovery. After liberation, he has worked
both as a film director and
an actor. He
is especially famous for playing
the negative
roles in films such as A Guerrilla

on the Plain, The Three Sisters
of the Song
Family, and A Family in Shanghai.

Dalian is the second hometown of Li Ling,
a well-known actress. She had
first worked
in a factory in the suburb
of Dalian. By
passing an examination, she
was admitted
into the Central Experiment
Modern Drama
Troupe, which was the starting
point of her
art career. Due to her exquisite

telefilms as
Ward No. 16, A Girl from the
Yellow Mountain,

Xu Peidong, a Dalian-born composer, has become
famous for the trilogy: Fence,
Woman, and

countryside. The
TV serials were produced by
Dalian Television
Station. Mr. Xu has created
songs for The
Yongzheng Dynasty and many
other telefilms.
They gained him considerable
reputation and
won him the best composition
prize of the
"Golden Eagle Award".

Whenever Zhang Li, a well-known song writer
born in Dalian, is mentioned,
people would
naturally associate him with
songs such as
"Shadow of the Wattle
Wall", "Miserable
and Happy Years", "Fate
is not
Windass", "Power
of Asia",
and "Empress Wu Ze".
He cooperated
well with his town fellow Xu
Peidong in writing
songs for telefilms. His unique
conception
and original words bring to

Fan Linlin Graduated from Dalian No. 23 Middle
School and then was admitted
by Shenyang
Conservatory of Music. When
she finished
her study there, she was assigned
to work
in Dalian Song and Dance Troupe.

her back to Dalian and she

sang in the TV
serials Fence, Woman, and Dog
made her a
singing star overnight. She
is now a first
class actress in the Song and
Dance Troupe

from Dalian. The three films-The

Ceremony of China, The Negotiation
in Chongqing

have won considerable
acclaim from the audience and
have been awarded
many prizes.

Yang Hongji, a renowned Dalian-born dramatist
and singer became famous for
acting as the
leading actor in the opera
Aolei Yilan. Songs
such as "We Walk along
the Wide Road",
"Night in the Outskirts
of Moscow"
sung by him have been very
popular. They
won him the "Plum Blossom
Award"
and "Wen Hua Award".

Liu Changshun, a sprinter from Dalian, was
known as "the First Chinese
in the Olympic
Games". In 1929. he set
the record for
the national 100-meter dash.
In 1930s, he
was the only Chinese who attended
the 10th Olympic Games held in the US. Although he
did not win any awards, he
demonstrated the
strong will of the Chinese
people. |
Zou Zhenxian, a graduate from Dalian No.
21 Middle School, was known
as the "Asian
Flying Man". His jump(17.02
meters)
at the Track and Field Tournament
of 1979
shocked the world. In 1981,
he took the second
place in the World Cup of Track
and Field
Contest. Because he was the
only Asian athlete
who had won such a place in
such sports event,
the Asian Track and Field Association
awarded
him the "Golden Boots

| Xu Yongjiu was a student of Dalian No. 107
Middle School. Nicknamed "Flying
Foot",
she took the first place and
set a new record
in the 6th World Cup of Heel-and-Toe Walking Race in
1983. She was the first Chinese
athlete who

Dalian is the first special zone of Soccer
playing nationwide. In 1994
its soccer team
took the championship in the
seasonal matches
of the professional soccer
games of China.
In 1995, Chi Shangbin, a former
player on
the National Soccer Team, determinedly
took
the position of the chief coach
when Dalian
Team was facing a difficult
situation. He
led the team to the championship
successively
for two years and set the record
of "No
Failure " for as many
as 55 games.

Li Fusheng, now the Captain of Ba Yi Sports
Team, is well known to us Dalian
people not
only because you were born
here, but also
because you were the "Lock"-an
excellent goalkeeper-of our
National Soccer

Team at present, once won the

in the World Badminton Match.
He led his
team to the championship of
Suliman Cup in

He is now the managing deputy
chairman of
China's Mountaineering Association
and reached
Mount Everest in 1988. He is

is a representative
of Dalian women Bicycle Team

| Ma Junren, the famous coach both home and
abroad, led his athletes to
championships
for 88 times in various sports
events. This
well-known coach has a loud
voice. People
can tell easily that he has
brought his runners
for the first place the minute
he speaks.

Wang Junxia, Qu Yunxia and Liu Dong were
former students of Dalian middle
school No.
25, 119 and 107 respectively.
In 1993, they
obtained 3 gold medals for
women 1500-, 3000-
and 10000-meter races in the
Fourth World
Track and Field Tournament.
Their achievements
have once and for all changed
the historical
fact that no Asians had ever
won any gold
medals in such world sports
event. Wang Junxia,
named the "Magic Deer
in the East",
won a gold medal and a silver
medal in the
Olympic Games of 1996 and was
the first Chinese
sportswoman who won the laurel
of championship
in World Track and Filed races.
She was also
the recipient of Owens international
award
and was the first Asian athlete
who gained
such a special fame. Jiang
Bo and Dong Yanmei
are also highly competitive
athletes in track
and field events.
